23 years ago tonight I met my husband.
I was telling the kids this story not too long ago. I had gone out the week before and met someone. He asked for my phone # and I did not want to give it to him...but he wore me down. :) so, he called the next day and said he was leaving Monday a.m. on business but he wanted to go out the following weekend. Don't ask me what his name was. Don't ask me what he looked like. I don't remember anything about him, really. He called once during the week, to touch base. Said he would be home Thursday night...wanted to go out Friday...would call when he was in town. We did not have actual plans, just an "I'll call you when I'm home." He did call. Said he would call back the next day and we would make our plans to go out. and then he did not call. I had not been dating - by choice - was tired of guy's crap. So the fact that I gave him, gave him my number, and then ended up getting stood up really really really ticked me off. And just reiteretated why I was not dating. I called my friend, Mary, Saturday a.m. and told her "get ready, we are going out tonight."
to be continued.

What a longggg, dragged out week. Seems like it lasted forever, BUT...it's FRIIIIIIIDAY!!
and...my husband took our daughter with him when he went to work this a.m. and dropped her off at his Mom's for the day AND night and WE ARE GOING ON A DATE! (I feel like it's the first one since the kids were born...but surely in the last 16 years we have gone out?)
anyway, I just finished work and have no idea what we are doing or where we are going...where does one go on a date night? :)
So, yesterday, Jan 27, 2011, was my Mom and Dad's 49th wedding anniversery. I'm happy to say they used the Groupon I got them for Christmas to go out to the restaurant where Gary is working. She said it was really good. So glad they did that!
Now to plan something big for next year!
Patrick's class went to the Symphony at Bass Hall yesterday during school. He said it was pretty cool and he liked it. It was hell getting him to dress for it...and he basically wore what I consider casual, but you would think he had to wear a tux the way he acted getting ready in the morning. AND he made the neighbors late for school (could not find his shoes at the last minute...they left without him, but they were already late too, for waiting on him). Just a bad morning all around.

ok, so I'm sitting watching Oprah (TIVO) yesterday on her trip to Australia and I get this overwhelming feeling of - well, first of all how incredibly GORGEOUS it is there. I have seen pictures of it before and never really thought much about it, but on the show yesterday, it just looked inCREDible. but then I start thinking...I want to go. And you know what? You only live once. and no one is going to hand me a trip (OPRAH). so I get online and look at airfare for the 5 of us. Ok, only about $6000. Add in another $6000 for hotel and FUN stuff to do while there....
ok that is my house payment budget for most of the year.
so, start saving. :)
and then when the $ is saved, do I do the practical thing and put it towards the house or do i just LIVE and go for it? i know me. I would put it toward the house.
I talked to Travis about all this on the way home from school. He is psyched..he'd go to Australia with me. I told him we can't save the $$ if he is spending it all on racing. Nothing like a good old fashioned Catholic guilt trip! :) He said when he is out of school and making $$ he would take me. I love that kid! I told him about the guy that proposed to his girlfriend on the trip...how his MOTHER gave her up spot on the trip so that he could take her and propose. WOW. What a MOM! He asked me if I would do that and I said yes, I you had been with her a long time (they were together 4 years, he said) and I liked her, I would do that for him. (and if she ever divorced him, I'd have to break her legs or something) :)
anyway, the whole point of this is that it made me realize that I'm in a rut - been there for years - and I feel like life is just passing me by. I'm not a "make things happen" type person. Always been a "watch things happen" type person.
Time to break out of that shell...I gotta get out more!!

Addie went to Mom's today.
Not much going on this week.

Sunday, 1/16/11
Well, after saying plenty of work, we ran out on Thursday AND Friday. Kids have half days at school both days. Travis had finals. He aced them all. Well, he was exempt from 3 and aced the other 3. To be exempt, you have to have perfect (I think) attendance and a certain grade, which I'm sure is an A, but I don't know if it has to be a high A or just an A. Anyway, he has always been exempt from any that he can be exempt from.
Thursday when he got out, we got ChikFilA for lunch.
Friday, he did not go to school. Patrick rode to and from school with Krista...pretty much all week. Thanks, Krista! (my neighbor). I ran out of work around noon so I went to the grocery store, and went to Walgreens to pick up pictures and to the Scrapbook Boutique for some BoBunny papers that just came in. They will go perfect with all the snow pictures from last year.
Saturday ( 1/15) was another lazy weekend day. Lots of laundry and still not caught up. Sigh. guess when the kids are grown.... :) Preston came over and spent the night with Patrick.
Sunday (1/16): not much today either. Working on project lift (catch up) yesterday and today. I'm starting to go stir crazy...have not been out of the house much at all. Hate bad weather. Cold and wet and overcast. Not a big fan of winter.

Work, work, work. Plenty to go around this week. No sleeping in for me. Oh well, much easier to get up this morning than yesterday, for some reason. Yesterday was rough.
anyway, I actually finished work at a decent time today. I don't know how that happened, but about the time Addison woke up from her (late) nap, I was finished. She came in and said "mamma, will you play with me?" and I'm SURE she was expecting to hear "when I finish my work" but I said "YES...I CAN." I'm surprised she did not keel over on the spot! We played Barbies, and cars, and cooked a meal of "pie apple" in her kitchen.
Let Travis drive us to Long John Silver's. It just sounded good tonight..so that is what we had for dinner. Ty called around 3 and said he had just had lunch and not to plan on him eating dinner...so I went and picked something up. It was okay...for some reason, it always sounds better than it tastes. Addison liked, it, though...ate almost a whole piece of fish and a hushpuppy and some fries. Wow! She has been eating more lately.
So, I'm off to work on ProjectLife.
I decied to get this year's kit and just do a chronological book this year...rather than daily. I'm still taking pictures...just in case...because the kit is out of stock at the moment and when I get it, I want to have the option of doing it either way, but just based on the fact that I have not finished last year's...Im thinking chronological.
I saw another blog today that showed the woman cleared off the very end of her kitchen counter and has it set up there...with the cards and a photo printer and her camera sitting there...so anyone can have access to it to do a "day". Great idea. Except my family thinks it's a "complete waste of time" to quote Patrick. But I have the space on the counter...if I just clean it off. That would be a good way to keep stuff from piling up there....which it ALWAYS does. and it would keep it front and center...
well, good intentions...

Work. School. COLD again. I stopped at grocery store after I took Travis to school to pick up a few things. Wind chill was in the single digits.
Worked all day.
Pat's school had a meeting for dad's and students tonight...pizza dinner. Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students) program..basically asking Dads to be on campus more often and keep their eyes/ears open around the campus to help keep students safe.
I took Addie to McDonald's with Morgan and Margie so she could get out of the house and play, then picked up Pizza Hut pastas on the way home for dinner.
Ate...went back to work, then to bed.
Addie is in heaven picking out what to drink...
